Description:

The visible portion of this print measures approximately 15 x 11 1/2 inches and features a sitting Native American man who is cited as being named Spotted Eagle. The writer however believes as some other sources claim, that this is actually a portrait of Spotted Eagle's son or nephew, who was named Scorched Lightning. The print has been nicely colored with water colors and the lower left with marked "YOUNG SPOTTED EAGLE, SIOUX, 1880" while the lower right has "LAHuffman", both in black ink. "59" is marked in white ink below the first of the two previously mentioned markings. The frame is lightly carved with floral motifs and measures approximately 19 3/4 x 16 inches. Laton Alton Huffman (1854-1931) was among the few photographers to capture ranching life in Montana in the late 19th century and enlarged many of his earlier photographs later in his life.

Rating Definition:

Very fine, with distinct image and vibrant color that shows very minimal fading or wear overall and crisp ink markings. The frame is fair showing significant chipping, wear, and handling marks scattered throughout.
