These deringers were introduced in 1870 and totaled around 48,000 produced. This deringer has gorgeous factory quality London period retailer applied engraving on over half of the metal surfaces consisting mainly of highly detailed scrollwork with punched backgrounds along with some border motifs. It is likely the engraving was executed in Britain by a skilled artisan or the retailer. The top of the barrel has a rounded blade front sight and "COLT" in large italic letters and the bottom of the barrel has small British proofs. It is fitted with a pair of smooth pearl grips. Includes an oak case with a Colt London Agency marked label on the inside of the lid, a key, and seven .41 RF cartridges in the block.

Very good, the barrel showing mostly a bright grey patina and half of the period applied gold plating remaining on the hammer with the balance an attractively aged brass and crisp engraving overall. There is a patch of wood filler visible on the butt of the left grip panel and the grips are otherwise very fine with minimal handling marks. Mechanically excellent. The case is very fine with minimal handling/storage wear.
