Approximately 5,802 Model 1847 cavalry musketoons were manufactured c. 1848-1859. These musketoons were used by the army in conflicts with Native Americans in the 1850s and during the Civil War. This musketoon is of the standard cavalry configuration with the ramrod retention swivels and a saddle bar and ring on the left side. "1848" dated lock and "1851" dated barrel tang.
