Description:

This revolver was manufactured early in production in London in 1853. The barrel and cylinder have London proof and view marks. The barrel has "{ADDRESS COL. COLT/LONDON}" and a post front sight. The cylinder has the classic stagecoach scene. The frame has the "COLTS/PATENT" marking on the left. "G. PEIRSON " is inscribed on the butt. Matching serial numbers are on the wedge, arbor pin, cylinder, loading lever, barrel, frame, trigger guard, backstrap, and backstrap mortise. It comes in an original fitted oak case with green baize lining and S. Mordan & Co. marked lock, cleaning rod, L-shaped nipple wrench/screwdriver, blued mold, large tin with some balls and bullets, and a "BARTRAM & CO." marked pocket flask. G. Peirson is not documented, and without further information their identity would be very difficult to confirm, but one possibility is the George Peirson that leased the Royal Marine Artillery Canteen in Portsmouth until his death in 1857.

Rating Definition:

Fine with essentially all of the replated silver remaining on the grip frame dull refinished blue on the cylinder, 95% plus period reapplied blue on the barrel, 40% muted case colors on the frame as well as the hammer and loading lever, and mild overall wear. The grip is also fine and has glossy varnish, minor dings, and light edge wear. Mechanically fine. The case is fine and has a crack in the lid and general mild age and storage related wear including fading and small tears in the lining. The accessories are very good. The spring on the flask is a replacement, and the mold has 80% plus original blue remaining. Overall, an interesting and attractive cased set.
