This c. 1750s-1760s musket has the Georgian cipher at the center of the lock and "GALTON" on the tail. The smoothbore barrel has a block front sight/bayonet lug, Ordnance proofs, and another unclear marking on the left at the breech. The furniture is brass. The sideplate is flush fitting rather than the rounded version.

Rating Definition:

Fair as shortened, reconverted to flintlock configuration, and refinished with mostly a coat of brown finish along with dark brown patina, mild oxidation and pitting, bayonet lug moved back, aged patina on the brass, and general moderate overall wear. The stock is also good and has some work done around the lock mortise and edges, a few thin cracks, general mild scratches and dings, and moderate overall wear. Mechanically fine.
