Description:

This classic Colt Model 1860 Army revolver was manufactured in 1870. While we often think of the Colt Single Action Army as the iconic western handgun, Colt's percussion revolvers saw much longer use during the settling of the West, and they were still very widely used in the 1870s and beyond alongside the Winchester Model 1866 and other metallic cartridge firearms. The period saw rapid expansion in the West along with continuing conflicts with various Native American nations and outlaw gangs like the James-Younger Gang. This revolver has the standard markings and features aside from the special "one-piece" style grip (two panels bonded to a spacer). The spacer has "111 02 55" on the back. The wedge is blank. Matching serial numbers are on the arbor pin, barrel, cylinder, frame, trigger guard, and back strap. Included is a 20th century "JEREMIAH/TAOS" marked black leather holster with light floral design. Provenance: The Gary Burghoff Collection

Rating Definition:

Very good plus. 30% original blue finish remains on the barrel, 25% remains on the cylinder which has most of the cylinder scene distinct, patterns of the age faded case colors remaining, 30% original silver plating concentrated around the trigger guard, attractive aged patina on the silver and brass, and mottled gray and brown patina on the balance of the iron along with some light oxidation. The period replacement grip is also fine and has attractive natural grain, a natural aged patina overall, thin age cracks visible on the butt, and the metal proud at the butt and toe. Mechanically excellent. The holster is also fine and has mild overall wear. Overall, a very attractive Colt Model 1860 Army from the Wild West era!
