Manufactured in 1918 for use by the Imperial German Army in World War I, and subsequently overhauled in 1920, likely for German police issue, with both dates present on the front receiver ring around the "crown/DANZIG" manufacturer's mark. Blade front and tangent rear sights, fitted in a smooth pistol grip stock with grasping grooves, "1920" stamped on the left of the buttstock, Gothic crown stamps on the right of the buttstock, matching serial number on the underside of the buttstock, and a flat steel buttplate. Full and partial matching serial number marked on various components. Includes a "17" dated Schubert & Salzer M98/05 butcher bayonet and metal scabbard with leather frog. Very fine as arsenal refurbished, retains 80% blue finish showing a few areas of gray and brown patina. Stock is also very fine with a few scattered scratches, crisp grasping grooves, edges and stampings. Mechanically excellent. Included bayonet, scabbard and frog are all very good.
