The Model 1886 is one of the finest Winchester models and was the first repeater based on designs by John M. Browning. It was developed as a replacement for the weaker toggle link action Model 1876, but their production was fairly limited at around 160,000 between 1886 and 1935. This fine example is chambered in the desirable .45-90 WCF caliber and was manufactured 1893. The rifle has the desirable casehardened frame and is fitted with a Lyman beaded blade front sight and a buckhorn elevation adjustable rear sight. The top barrel flat is stamped with the two-Winchester address ahead of the rear sight and "45-90 W.C.F." at the breech. The upper tang is stamped "-MODEL 1886-." The lower tang has the two-line patent dates marking and the serial number. The straight grip stock is fitted with a crescent buttplate.

Very fine. The barrel and magazine tube retain 70% original blue finish mixed with an attractive plum appearance. The bolt retains 95% original blue finish. The loading gate retains 90% original nitre blue. The frame retains 75% original case colors with the strongest colors on the right side and lower tang. 60% original case colors remain on the hammer, lever, and forend cap. Patterns of original case colors remain on the buttplate. The wood is fine with a couple of divots and minor dings and scratches. Mechanically excellent.
