The accompanying factory letter states the rifle was received in the warehouse on July 6, 1892 and shipped the same day with an octagon barrel in 38-56 caliber, plain trigger, checkered pistol grip stock, and Lyman sights. The rifle is fitted with a dovetail blade front sight, elevation adjustable buckhorn rear sight, and folding tang peep sight. The top barrel flat is stamped with the two-line Winchester New Haven address ahead of the rear sight and "38-56 WCF" at the breech. The receiver has the desirable casehardened finish. The lower tang has the patent dates marking and serial number. The deluxe XX walnut forearm and pistol grip stock feature "H" style checkering. The pistol grip has an ebony insert. The buttstock has a crescent buttplate. The left side of the lower tang is marked "239 XX." The assembly number "239" is repeated on the stock inlet and buttstock.
