This high condition example of a deluxe Marlin Model 1897 rifle is worthy of the finest lever action collections. The Model 1897 was a "working man's gun" and customers were not inclined to spend more for deluxe features. These deluxe models, especially those in high condition, are becoming difficult to find. Manufactured after 1906, this rifle is fitted with a beaded blade front sight and an elevation adjustable rear sight. The top barrel flat is stamped with the two-line Marlin address/patent dates legend ahead of the rear sight. The upper tang is marked "Marlin/MODEL '97." The forearm and pistol grip stock are highly figured walnut and feature multi-point factory checkering. The stock is fitted with a Marlin hard rubber shotgun buttplate.
