Solid blade front and 500 yard two-leaf rear sight. Casehardened "1863" dated "U.S./SPRINGFIELD" marked lock. "1863" dated barrel. The left stock flat is marked with two bordered script cartouches including that of Springfield Master Armorer Erskine S. Allin. "US" marked buttplate tang. Includes a "U.S" marked socket bayonet. Provenance: The Bob Noske Collection; The Jack Lewis Jr. Collection; The Greg Lampe Collection

Rating Definition:

Exceptionally fine, exhibiting highly attractive original armory bright surfaces, some light surface pitting on the inside of the trigger guard, 97% original blue finish on the barrel bands, 70% original blue finish on the rear sight with smooth brown patina on the balance, 85% plus vibrant original case colors on the lock and hammer with scattered light freckling, and absolutely sharp markings and edges in the metal overall. The stock is very fine with attractive raised and feathered walnut grains, distinct edges overall, some scattered light handling marks and exceptionally crisp cartouches. Mechanically excellent. Included bayonet is excellent. One will look a long time to find an upgrade on this exceptional example of a U.S. Springfield Model 1863 rifle-musket!
