Attractive Early Production Factory Engraved E. Remington & Sons Over/Under Derringer as Pictured in "Dr. William H. Elliot's Remington Double Derringer", with Desirable S.D. Myers El Paso, Texas Wrist Holster

Remington's classic over/under derringers, aka the "Double Derringer" or "Model 95," are undoubtedly among the most iconic pocket pistols of the American West. The design was patented by William H. Elliot on December 12, 1865, with this variation being manufactured from 1870 to 1888. This early variation is marked with the two-line "E. REMINGTON & SONS, ILION, N.Y./ELLIOT'S PATENT DECEMBER 12TH 1865" marking on the rib and an ejector fitted to the left side. The scroll engraving patterns on the barrel and frame are designs found on a select number of other early Remington derringers. The serial number is on the bottom of the lower barrel, on the frame under the left grip, and hand marked inside each of the smooth antique ivory grip panels. Includes a rare and desirable S.D. Myres El Paso, Texas leather wrist holster and two S.D. Myres catalogs. This specific derringer is pictured with a case that is no longer included on p. 79 in "Dr. William H. Elliot's Remington Double Derringer" by Drummond, Johnson, Williams, and Barnard. Provenance: The Roger Muckerheide Collection; The George S. Lewis Jr. Collection

ConditionVery fine, retains 85% plus of the original nickel finish on the barrels and traces of the original gold finish in sheltered areas of the frame, the balance showing mostly an attractively aged silver or smooth grey patina. The grips are fine with a few hairline age cracks around the screw holes. Mechanically excellent. The rare holster is fine showing moderate wear, with clear markings.
