Description:

These early 19th century English dueling pistol have smoothbore, Damascus barrels with fixed silver blade front sights, single gold bands at the breech, gold vent liners, and "D STUBBS" and a pair of cross scepter proofs on the bottom flats. The casehardened standing breeches have fixed notch rear sights and floral and classical martial engraving. The locks are signed "DAVY" and have rainproof pans, frizzen spring rollers, scroll and burst engraving, half-cock safeties, stepped tails, and beveled edges. The wedge and wrist escutcheons are silver. The forend caps are horn. The remaining furniture is blued and features classic English engraving, including pineapple finials on the trigger guards. The pistols are equipped with adjustable single set triggers. The half-length stocks have checkered bag shaped grips. The pistols come in a fitted case with a circular, flat folding handle, a loading rod, ball mold, flints, a few balls, a Sykes patent combination flask, and a key.

Rating Definition:

Fine with 75% plus period refurbished brown finish and distinct Damascus twist patterns along the barrel, bright gold vent and band, mostly silver-gray patina on the lock, dark aged patina on the silver, 75% period refurbished blue finish on the furniture, and mild age and storage related wear. The stock is very fine and has crisp checkering, minor handling and storage marks, and some scratches by the lock screw. Mechanically fine. The case is very good and has mild wear. The flask is good and has a sticky lever, some dents, and some repairs.
