Historic Inscribed Factory Panel Scene Engraved Merwin Hulbert & Co. Open Top Pocket Army Single Action Revolver with Extraordinary Relief Carved Mexican Eagle Grips

Manufactured in the 1880s. Near full coverage factory floral engraving, complimented by the punchdot scroll and geometric patterns. The left side of the frame shows a scene of two ships sailing on the ocean. The flowers have enamel dots inlaid at their centers. The right grip panel is carved with a Mexican Eagle holding a snake. The top of the barrel is inscribed "C. Capetillo". The Capetillo family arrived in Mexico from Spain in the late 19th century, since then the family has maintained a long tradition as matadors. This revolver was more than likely owned by a member of this branch of the family, particularly with the wonderful carved Mexican Eagle grips. Matching assembly numbers on the cylinder, barrel, and under the left grip panel.

Rating definitionExceptionally fine, retaining 85% plus original nickel finish, minor handling evidence, a few areas of light pitting on the barrel, and most of the enamel dots are missing. The grips are very fine with a few minor cracks and some shrinkage. Mechanically excellent. Overall a very attractive and historic inscribed factory panel scene engraved Merwin Hulbert & Co. revolver, with Mexican history!
