The box is red and blue tartan patterned with red seal band around the middle. The top of the lid has a yellow label with the image of a Colt Single Action Army revolver and black lettering, (see picture), which in part says that the 45 caliber ammunition is for the "Colt's New Breech Loading Army Revolver" and that they were "Adopted by the United States Army for the Cavalry Service". The red seal is marked "Colts Patent Fire Arms Manuf." is script on one side and "These Cartridges are expressly adapted the .45 caliber / Colt's New Breech Loading Army Revolver. They being / made according to our special directions / strongly recommend them for use in this arm." and a small duplicate marking from the opposite side. Very fine. The box shows some corner and edge wear, some material loss, and some light staining. There are pieces of the red seal absent with a strong 80% remaining.
