Winchester Model 1892 Lever Action Saddle Ring Trapper's Carbine with Highly Desirable 16 Inch Barrel

These shorter than standard, utilitarian carbines often saw hard use by those who carried them, such as the trappers from whom they got their name, or western ranchers in need of compact firepower. Many of these guns spent their life exposed to the elements along with their owners, and used as a tool with little thought of being viewed favorably in a future collectors market. Thus, these carbines are, more often than not, seen with very little finish remaining and wearing all of the scars of their working life. This example was manufactured circa 1921-1928 and features a 16 inch barrel, which is extremely desirable due to not requiring an exemption letter from the ATF for the barrel length. The carbine also has standard markings including the Winchester factory oval proofs on the barrel and receiver at the breech, pinned blade front and folding ladder rear sights, saddle ring and staple mounted on the left side of the receiver, and carbine stock. Provenance: The Brandhorst Collection

ConditionVery good as showing great working gun character with the metal surfaces exhibiting mixed patina, 30% plus original blue finish remaining on the barrel and magazine tube and wood with numerous dings and scratches along with a chip at the upper tang associated with age and use. Mechanically excellent. This highly desirable Winchester Model 92 Trappers Carbine with 16 inch barrel has all of the appearance of spending years on the open range in the hands of an experienced rancher.
