Attractive Carved Cane with Ornate Silver Accents and 1892 Dated Christmas Inscription

Cane were incredibly popular through the 19th century and into the 20th century among people from all walks of the life, with the canes growing more ornate the higher in the economic and social ladder the person was standing. Due to their popularity, they were very common gifts for Christmas and special occasions, especially among the affluent. This piece is a prime example of that, bearing an inscription indicating that it was a Christmas gift. The slightly T-shaped grip is attractively carved with spiral flutes and one end tipped with a "SERLING" marked silver ferrule that has floral motifs and is inscribed "Xmas/1892". The grip is joined to the shaft with a matching floral silver band inscribed with a monogram that appears to be "RCH". The hardwood shaft is slightly knobbed and tipped with German silver and iron. It measures 35 inches overall.

ConditionVery fine, the grip showing an attractive, lightly aged tone with a few scattered hairline age cracks. The silver shows an attractively aged patina and a few minor dents in the band. The shaft is fine with a few minor age cracks and some oxidation/patina on the tip.
