Description:

These massive long guns filled roles in between muskets and artillery and could fire a massive large ball at long range or loose shot for closer engagements. This example has a large iron spur on the bottom of the barrel which would catch against the wall or rampart to absorb some of the recoil. Heavy guns like this were used primarily in the 16th, 17th, and 18th centuries to defend fortified positions. The barrel has blade front sight, notch rear sight, some wavy line accents, a heart shaped "AM" maker's mark, and octagon to round profile. The large lock plate has no visible markings and is secured by two cross screws. The massive stock has a paddle shaped butt.

Rating Definition:

Very good with gray patina, mild pitting, and generally mostly age and storage related wear. The stock is good and has extensive insect damage on the butt as is common to many of these early European guns along with some chips and minor cracks. Mechanically fine. This is definitely an impressive piece to add serious firepower to your antique gun collection!
