Description:

Built by a collection of the finest gunsmiths, stock makers, and case builders that the United States has to offer, this incredible rifle is a one-of-a-kind masterwork of the very best quality. John McCormick blued barrel with a ramped blade front sight which shows scroll engraving along with gold inlaid leafy scroll and a gold band at the muzzle as well as an engraved island rear sight with gold centered folding leaf, and a wedge of scroll and a gold band at the breech. The Pre-64 Winchester Model 70 action has had the tang elegantly reshaped and displays near full coverage exceptional floral scroll engraving with gold borders and scroll accents around "American Master Series" marked in gold on the left side. The action is topped by a pair of engraved, gold inlaid, and casehardened scope rings holding a Leupold Vari-X IIc 2-7x scope. The action is signed on the top of the rear bridge on the right by the engravers "M. RABENO" (Martin Rabeno) and "W. MAINS" (William Mains) as well as on the left side by stockmaker "E. MATSOUKA" (Earl Matsouka) and "H. WALDRON" (Herman Waldron) who did the metal work. The floorplate displays more scroll engraving with gold line borders surrounding a coin finished panel scene showing a relief gold inlaid mountain lion protecting its kill. Exhibition quality French walnut multi-point checkered stock with shadowline cheekpiece, blued engraved and gold inlaid NRA logo grip cap, and engraved and gold inlaid skeleton buttplate around the checkered bare butt. Included with the rifle is a full length oak & leather case by Marvin Huey with a list of the work carried out by the various artisans who worked on the gun affixed to the lid interior which contains a matching engraved and gold inlaid knife by Fred Carter along with a set of casehardened, engraved, and gold inlaid tools, two matching engraved oilers, and a casehardened dummy round with the casehardening completed by John Hackley.

Rating Definition:

Excellent as built by the hands of many masters of the Engravers Guild of American, retaining 99% blue and gold finishes with some areas of slight discoloration, minor handling evidence, and sharp checkering on the stock and forend. The case, knife, and accessories are also all excellent. Scope optics are sharp. Mechanically excellent. A scarce opportunity to own and display a Winchester model 70 built by some of the finest gun-makers! A true one-of-a-kind.
