Rare and Desirable World War I Era Curtiss Flying Boat Propeller

This early style propeller is laminate in construction and features the distinct cutout for use on the Curtiss flying boat. The wooden surfaces have a maroon varnish applied with the tips of the propeller sheathed in brass which has been riveted on. The left of propeller is stamped "1/P6698/88X611" and "275-7". The right shares the "275-7" marking and is also marked "21/CP67662LH". The propeller measures 104 1/4 inches. The Curtiss flying boat is seen by many as the grandfather of commercial aviation thanks to its capability to fly across the Atlantic and ability to carry cargo. The Curtiss was pressed into service by the British RNAS in a U-boat spotting and at sea rescue role among other wartime roles. These propellers are seldom seen as only 478 Curtiss flying boats were manufactured.

ConditionVery fine, retaining 95% of the maroon textured varnish with some handling marks and edge wear. The brass tips and flush rivets have an attractive dark aged coloration. These propellers are seldom seen, don't miss out on your opportunity to own not just a part of World War I history, but the history of aviation as a whole!
