Description:

This Kentucky rifle has no visible makers markings, with an unreadable marking on the top of the barrel at the breech end. The mountings are brass, dovetailed blade front and open iron rear sights and full stock. The left stock flat has a lightly engraved side plate and a brass inset crescent moon on the cheek piece. The large brass patch box is ornately shaped and engraved with simple border and floral patterns, and the thumb plate is inscribed "IM". Brass buttplate with 3 inch toe extension and wooden ram rod secured by three brass pipes.

Rating Definition:

Good. The metal surfaces have a dark patina, with light oxidation overall. The stock is about good with the forend portion loose, an 18 inch splinter absent on the upper left front and a 6 1/2 inch splinter absent on the right front. The left rear escutcheon is absent and the area around the left side plate and right rear of the buttstock have been sanded, and left unfinished, with a repair done in the area of the trigger. There is a small 1 inch crack at the front of the left side plate. The action functions well. Original Flintlock Kentucky Rifles are seldom encountered as most were converted to percussion and then re-converted to Flintlock. This specimen fortunately is still in original Flintlock configuration!
