Description:

Manufactured in 1866. The revolver has British London "Crown/CP" and "Crown/V" proof and inspection marks stamped on the left side of the barrel lug and in each cylinder flute. The revolver is complete with a British style, seven compartment oak case with green baize lining and a complete set of British accessories. "Colt's Patent Fire-Arms Manufacturing Co.," directions are glued to the inside of the case lid. The case contains: cleaning rod with blued steel bulbous head, L-shaped combination screwdriver/nipple wrench, James Dixon & Sons pewter oil bottle, blued iron double cavity bullet mold marked "COLT'S/PATENT" on the spruce cutter and "36P" on the right block, empty 500 count tin of Eley percussion caps with green label, bag-shaped, James Dixon & Son, powder flask with adjustable 3/8/ 1/2 and 5/8 dram charger, sealed packet of Hazards cartridges for Colt's New Model Revolving Police Pistol and key. The revolver has high polish blue finish on the barrel, five-shot fluted cylinder, trigger guard and back strap. The loading lever, frame and hammer are color casehardened. The blued steel trigger guard and back strap are characteristic of London Model 1862 Police revolvers. The barrel has a brass cone front sight and the hammer has bordered knurling on the spur. There is no capping channel in the recoil shield. The cylinder lacks the patent markings in the flutes found on Model 1862 Pocket revolvers manufactured for the American market. The top of the barrel is roll-stamped: "ADDRESS COL. SAML COLT NEW-YORK U.S. AMERICA". "COLTS/PATENT is stamped on the left side of the frame. "36 CAL" is stamped on the left shoulder of the trigger guard. The serial number "34351" is stamped on the bottom of the barrel lug, frame, trigger guard and back strap. All of the visible serial numbers match. "L" is stamped above or below each of the serial numbers.

Rating Definition:

Excellent. The revolver, case and accessories are all original. The revolver retains 95% plus of the original high polish blue and color casehardened finish. The blue finish on the barrel has some light muzzle wear and a few minor scratches. The right side of the barrel lug has a number of dents around the wedge slot. The cylinder has edge wear on high points and some finish loss and light flash pitting on the rebated portion and percussion nipples. Nearly all of the blue finish is present on the trigger guard while the back strap has slight handling wear. The loading lever, frame and hammer retain 97% plus of the original casehardened finish. The sides of the hammer have some light flash pitting. The walnut grip is excellent and has 98% of the piano finish; wear is limited to a few very minor handling marks. The exterior of the oak case is very good overall with minor handling and storage wear. The interior remains very good. The label is original with no tears; wear is limited to a few minor stains from contact with the revolver. The baize lining is very fine overall. Wear is limited to some discoloration from contact with the revolver and some minor tears in the fabric from contact with the revolver front sight and hammer. The block that supports the hammer is separated but could be easily reattached. The cleaning rod has 50% of the blue finish. The bullet mold, oil bottle, screw-driver, bullet mold and cartridge packet are excellent and show minimal wear. The powder flask is free from dents, retains more than 95% of the brown lacquer and gold plated finish and has nearly all of the niter blue on the spring. The cap tin shows light-moderate handling wear and remains very good. This is an excellent and exceptionally rare example of a Colt London Agency cased and British proofed Colt Model 1862 Police revolver manufactured in Hartford. These are exceedingly rare!
