Description:

This late Ilion production AHE Parker double barrel shotgun was manufactured circa 1938-1942 and is pictured and discussed on pages 322 and 323 of THE PARKER STORY. Only 248 additional Parkers were made after this excellent example. The AHE grade guns are the third highest grade of Parker shotguns and cost $515 in the 1937 catalog based on the data in THE PARKER GUN: AN IMMORTAL AMERICAN CLASSIC on page 120. Only 306 A grade (grade 6) hammerless shotguns were manufactured in total. The shotgun features blue barrels and trigger guard and casehardened remaining parts. The raised vent rib features dual white bead sights. It is marked "FULL" and "FULL" on the barrel flats which are also marked "OVERLOAD/PARKER GUNWORK/PROVED". The barrels are numbered to the gun. The water table is marked with the two line Ilion address and "AH" above the serial number. The action, trigger guard, forearm hardware and break lever are engraved with fine scroll patterns. Amid the engraving on each side of the action are game bird scenes, and the underside has a hunting dog scene. The underside of the frame is also engraved "PARKER." The trigger guard has scrollwork as well as a game bird scene. It also features a tang mounted automatic safety, single trigger with selector, highly figured beavertail forearm and semi-pistol grip stock with fancy checkering, fleur-de-lis stock flats with checkered recesses, a grip cap with brass insert marked "C.C. TEAGUE," and a solid recoil pad. Measurements - Bore Diameter at Muzzle: .623 inches, Choke: full/full, Chamber Length: 2 3/4 inches, Length of Pull: 13 1/2 inches, Drop at Comb: 1 1/2 inches, Drop at Heel: 2 inches, Cast: neutral, Toe: neutral, Overall Weight: 6 pounds 15 ounces. Parker Bros. manufactured only about 125 of these AHE Grade shotguns with pistol grip stocks and only approximately 44 in 20 gauge. This shotgun is very near the end of Pre-War II production, which was "242487" in 1942. Also included is a 26 inch barrel set choked improved cylinder/cylinder.

Rating Definition:

Excellent. The barrels retain 98% of the original blue finish showing some loss at the muzzles and a few minor scratches. The frame retains 95% original case colors. The wood is very fine with a number of minor handling marks (small gouge on left side of buttstock) and a few blemishes in the overall crisp checkering. Mechanically excellent.
