Manufactured 1906 and 1907. An improved and lightened version of the Model 1898. The left side of the receiver is engraved with ducks in flight in a marsh scene surrounded by scroll designs, the bolt has two pigeons in flight and the right side of the receiver has scroll designs with a scallop border. The top of the barrel is marked with the two line address/patent dates followed by "12. GA." and the left side is marked "SPECIAL SMOKELESS STEEL". The underside is marked "91763F". The serial number is on the bottom of the receiver in a panel amid a floral design. Blue finish, and mounted with a serrated walnut forearm and smooth pistol grip stock with a serrated "Marlin" marked horn buttplate. The right side of the stock has an inset silver plaque inscribed "Mathew F Miller/FROM/Egbert H Mead/Sept 3rd 1904". Choked full and 13 5/8 inch length of pull. It is known that Alden George Ulrich apprenticed under is father Conrad at the age of 17 and was an engraver for Marlin from 1905 to 1919. A check of Mathew Miller met with negative results and a goggle search found several Egbert Meads.

Rating Definition:

Fine. The shotgun retains 50% plus original thin blue finish showing edge wear and a smooth gray patina on the balance. The wood is good. The forearm has been freshened with a coat of varnish. The stock has a moderate sized repaired chip on the toe and the toe of the buttplate is absent. Overall there are some scattered minor dings and scratches. The engraving and markings are clear. The action is fine.
