Description:

This pistol, Manufactured by Henry Aston of Middletown, Connecticut, circa 1845 to 1852. The lock is marked "Middtn/CONN/1850" behind the hammer and "US/H.ASTON" ahead of the hammer. The top of the barrel at the breech is marked "US/GW/P" and the barrel tang is dated "1850". There is a small "H" stamped on the top of the back strap and on the barrel band extension directly ahead of the forward screw. This pistol has the swivel button head ramrod. All mountings are brass, and all the metal parts were armory bright with the exception of the blue trigger and screw heads. It has a brass blade front sight and is mounted with a smooth walnut stock with two clear cartouches on the left flat (one "WAT" and the other "GW") and a small recessed stamp "SXX" (?).

Rating Definition:

Fine. The metal surfaces remain bright with some scattered minor discoloration. The brass has been polished some time ago and for the most part remains bright. The reoiled stock is fine with a very small gouge behind the lock, a few minor handling marks and sharp edges on the flats. The markings are clear. The action is excellent.
