Manufactured in 1916, this rifle was later released from government stores for private sale via the Director of Civilian Marksmanship; these rifles received the distinctive "(bomb)/N.R.A." stamp ahead of the magazine floorplate to distinguish them from the arms still in the military inventory. Blade front and folding ladder rear sights (with volley notch), with a "SA/1-16" barrel and a casehardened receiver. The smooth straight wrist stock is marked "J.S.A." on the left side, circled script "P" on the underside of the wrist, and fitted with a sharply checkered buttplate.
Excellent plus, with 98% plus original blue finish, showing some minor handling marks and edge wear overall. The stock is also excellent plus, with some light dings and scratches. Mechanically excellent. One will look quite some time to find a finer example!
