Sammy Davis Jr's Colt Single Action Army and Holster Rig
Manufactured in 1980, this iconic Colt Single Action Army revolver and holster rig is documented as belonging to the legendary Hollywood performer, Sammy Davis Jr. (1925-1990). Davis' performing career began as a child, joining with his father and godfather to form a song and dance act called the Will Mastin Trio. Davis was drafted at age 18 for World War II and experienced frequent racism while serving in the army, before eventually being reassigned to a role in entertaining troops. After the war he returned to the Will Mastin Trio and recorded blues songs with Capitol Records. Around 1959 Sammy became a member of what would become known as "The Rat Pack", an informal group including the likes of Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin, Peter Lawford, and Joey Bishop. The group made multiple films together including "Ocean's 11", "Seargants 3", and "Robin and the 7 Hoods". Davis performed along with the Rat Pack in Las Vegas, and he was a headliner at The Frontier Casino there. In 1964, he was the first African American to perform at the famous Copacabana night club in New York, as well as starring in "Golden Boy" on Broadway. In the late 1960s, Davis befriended Elvis Presley and both drew top crowds performing in Las Vegas. Through the 1960s and 1970s Davis appeared on many different television shows, recorded music, and appeared in movies, in many cases breaking long-held racial color barriers. He appeared and starred in many different Westerns, both film and television, and his gun twirling and quick-draw skills were well known in Hollywood, making a revolver and rig like this very fitting for him. This specific revolver is documented in a notarized letter as modified for quick draw by Arvo Ojala (1920-2005), a legendary Hollywood technical advisor on quick-draw and western gun techniques. The included letter is signed by Ojala and states that the revolver was modified by him and the holster rig was made by him and gifted to Davis Jr., who later returned the items to Ojala as a gesture of friendship. The revolver itself has standard markings with the addition of "SAMMY DAVIS JR." engraved on the back strap. It has mostly standard features apart from the shorted front sight blade, narrowed hammer that is slightly turned to the right, a pair of smooth pearlite grips, and a lightened mainspring. The included black leather holster rig shows nice texture and light border tooling, a single row of cartridge loops, "SAMMY" carved on the inside surface of the belt and finished in brown for contrast, and engraved sterling silver buckles on the belt and holster. Provenance: The Sammy Davis Jr. Collection; The Arvo Ojala Collection; Property of a Gentleman

George Spring Engraved Colt 3rd Gen. Single Action Army Revolver
Offered here is a revolver that personifies the idea that not all art is framed. The included factory letter lists it as leaving the factory in .45 Colt with a 7 1/2 inch barrel, in the white with stocks not listed when shipped to Master Engraver George Spring in Colt's Manufacturing Co., West Hartford, Connecticut, on October 21, 1999. This revolver was painstakingly transformed by Spring with a wide and narrow gold band inlaid at both the muzzle and breech ends of the barrel, the latter of which extends onto the ejector rod housing with a fine wavy line between each pair. The top of the barrel and side of the ejector housing have been inlaid with an art deco scroll design with engraved line border. The black powder frame features 80% coverage floral scroll on a matted background with gold inlaid scroll amongst the engraving and tulip scroll gold inlaid on the top strap. The lower portion of the frame has a gold inlaid border and the recoil shield and loading gate have a raised relief band which has been lightly engraved. The cylinder has been engraved and inlaid in a matching motif to the barrel. The sides of the trigger guard and hammer as well as the sides and back of the trigger guard and back strap have gold inlaid borders surrounding floral panels with gold inlaid scrolls on the hammer, top of the back strap, butt, trigger guard bow, and in front of the bow. The special serial number "SPRING 1" is hand cut on the bottom of the frame. Included with the revolver is a George Spring letter authenticating his work on the revolver as well as correspondence between Spring and famed collector and author of "Fine Colts" Dr. Joseph A. Murphy about Spring creating the piece for display at the 1999 Colt Collectors Association show in San Francisco and Murphy subsequently purchasing the revolver. Provenance: The Dr. Joseph A. Cased Presentation Engraved and Inlaid S&W Model 19-6 Revolver
Offered here is a magnificently engraved and gold inlaid revolver presented to U.S. lawman, Marine, Texas resident, and author Bill Jordan as a show of gratitude for his work with the United States Border Patrol, as the father of the K-Frame .357 Magnum Combat revolver, and as an avid exhibition shooter. The included factory letter states this one-of-a-kind revolver with special serial number was designed and custom engraved for presentation to Bill. The work when completed on April 25, 1989, was the highest quality ever offered by the company, never to be repeated. The engraving consists of gold outline borders on the barrel which surrounds the "SMITH & WESSON" barrel marking on the left and flows into Jordan's signature, also inlaid in gold, on the right with flourishes of floral scroll engraving on the under lug as well as "S&W .357 MAGNUM" hand cut on the bottom of the lug. The frame features 75% coverage floral scroll with a gold inlaid banner on the left with the title of Jordan's book "No Second Place Winner" and a gold and silver inlaid Border Patrol badge on the side plate. The top of the backstrap bears the signature of Smith & Wesson Master Engraver Paul Piquette. The cylinder sprays of floral scroll between the cylinder flutes inside gold inlaid triangle borders. Fitted with a gold bar inlaid blade front sight, adjustable rear sight, and a specially made set of Jordan's own pattern grips which are inlaid with scrimshaw medallions. The left medallion has the outline of the United States with "U.S./BORDER/PATROL" in block letters, and the right medallion has a portrait of Jordan. The revolver is housed in a walnut display case with green interior French fit to the revolver with a Border Patrol medallion on the lid. Information about Jordan, a letter from former S&W President T. Stephen Melvin thanking him for his work with the company, Melvin's remarks at the NRA event where the revolver was presented, and an article by Walton P. Sellers about his short time knowing Bill Jordan are all included. William Henry Jordan (1911-1997) was born in Louisiana, then resided and is buried in Texas, and is best known for his over three decade career with the United States Border Patrol, including as Assistant Chief Patrol Inspector. He also served in the U.S. Marine Corps Reserve during World War II and the Korean War, reaching the rank of colonel. During his Border Patrol career, he created the Jordan/Border Patrol holster, worked with Walter Roper on grips for revolvers, worked with Smith & Wesson on the .357 Magnum K-Frame revolvers, helped Elmer Keith and Skeeter Skelton develop the .41 Magnum, was awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom from President Ronald Reagan, worked as a field representative for the National Rifle Association in the Southwest, demonstrated impressive speed and accuracy as a quick draw exhibition shooter, taught quick draw to western actors, named Hand-Gunner of the Year, and wrote numerous articles as well as multiple books. Jordan's book "No Second Place Winner" is included.

Three Consecutive Colt 3rd Gen Single Action Army Revolvers
This is a one of a kind set of six total revolvers in three finishes consecutively serial numbered as pairs (not as a six gun set). All of the revolvers are fitted with special order bevelled cylinders and have the black powder style frames. A & B have gold inlaid "1" and "2" on the top of the back straps. C, D, E, & F are "line cut engraved" with "1" and "2" on the top of the back straps. Wilkerson indicates this was done by Colt Master Engraver George Spring. All have full coverage special order finishes: A & B are "Mirror-Brite" blue. C & D are silver plated, and E & F are gold plated. They all have fleur-de-lis checkered, one-piece grips and black powder style frames. Guns A & B are pictured on page 242, and guns C & D, as well as the other pair shipped with E & F, are pictured on page 253 of the included copy of Don Wilkerson's "The Post-War Colt Single-Action Revolver, 1976-1986." Per Wilkerson's study, only 1% of all 3rd Generation Colts were factory engraved and had a finish other than blue or nickel, and only 2% of engraved revolvers were in .44-40. Only 3% of all consecutive sets were manufactured in this caliber, and only 4% of the consecutively numbered revolvers had special finishes. The factory letters all confirm the configurations and indicate that the revolvers were shipped in two pair sets to Don Wilkerson at The Single Action Shop on March 22, 1985. A & B are listed as a order 2922. C & D were order number 2923, and E & F were 2924. The revolvers all have the standard markings, including matching serial numbers, and have standard blade and frame groove sights. They come in a hardwood case fitted to the guns and have original boxes with matching numbers and factory documents including manuals. The included case was built specifically for this Wilkerson set of 6 revolvers.
